ArchivalResource

John Powers collection, 1930-1945.

Contains a series of approximately 200 cartoons entitled "Levity load", dealing with mining and occupational safety issues in the mining industry. The cartoons were first published by the Mining Journal, and later reprinted in broadside form and distributed to mining companies for display on employee bulletin boards. This was one of the first consistent efforts to raise the safety consciousness of miners in the West.
